Am I the only one that is always surprised by the total when in the Costco checkout line?
Here I am standing with my very reasonable amount of things, feeling proud of myself for having bypassed some tempting impulse buys. And I’m thinking what a great job I did and how proud hubby will be for not going overboard. Which lets be honest is easy to do in Costco.
And then I see the total and am truly bewildered. Did I really buy that much stuff? That can’t be right. And as I walk to the exit to have my receipt checked I’m looking at each item confirming that I did in fact buy it.
By the time I get things loaded in my car I’ve chalked it up to the Costco effect, a mystery I’ll never quite solve.
This month I'm linking up daily with Two Writing Teachers as part of their Slice of Life Writing Challenge. Thanks for visiting!
This made me chuckle, Maggie. It is the same thing at Sam's Club. Joe and I figured out one trip that if you buy 15 things, just multiply it by $10 and the bill will be around $150. It worked. NOW... $15 per item gets you close to the what the total will be. I do use the scanner system at Sam's so I know how much I am spending before I get to the door. I love beating the checkout line.
ReplyDeleteI call it the $500 club. You can't get out of there for less, no matter how hard you try : )
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a Costco here but we do have a Sam's Club and I feel the same way. If I get out of there spending less than $100 I stop at Dunkin Donuts for a a coffee and donut to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteDear Maggie,
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone! I'm a Sam's girl, but I share your plight. I found this post to be so relatable. Though I feel a bit of anguish after looking at my bill, I remind myself that all of that hustle and bustle keeps me from making my otherwise every 2-3 day run to the grocery store. And of course, there's the inherent incentive of savings in bulk. Nevertheless, thank you for sharing this post! I find consolation in our mutual wonderment!
